The Iranian Parliament has just passed a bill to continue its nuclear programme. The legislation completes disregards the international nuclear talks that are occurring between international leaders with President Rouhani. I agree with Iranian Vice-President Majid Ansari that the Iranian Parliament should not be creating legislation that has nothing to do with them. The nuclear issue is one that President Rouhani should deal with rather than parliament. President Rouhani is looking out for his people and his state by working towards an agreement with international leaders because he wants Iran to be able to trade with other nations to boost their economy. The conservative hardliners do not care about the economic well-being of the nation and the people. Instead they care about making a religious and political point. They do not want to associate with west nor let the west have a say in their military and nuclear developments.
However, those hardliners do not understand that they will not have a country to govern if the economy fails, there is war, or the people revolting. So they need to consider what is best for themselves as welll, which an international agreement is better.
The international agreement is better because this will lift the sanctions against Iran. Iran will be allowed to build capital through trade, which will improve their economy. On the other hand, if a nuclear agreement is prevented then the people will have increased economic hardship, which will increase the protesting and may cause an outright revolt. Furthermore, if they are actually developing nuclear weapons, then there may be an agreement to invade Iran and put an end to their program forcefully. Which will still result in Iran going into turmoil therefore the conservatives will not have a people to control.
